First, I would like to admit that this took me a while to do. My ideas were not in order and I kept changed the direction of the paper. With the bit of Intel on gays and adoption, I decided to focus on peoples opinion on the matter.

In Romeo Vitelli Ph.D. article “Gay Parents and the Fight for Acceptance”, his main focus is on children with LGBT parents suffering harassment within school. The article supports my argument with how children being bullied because of their same sex parents overcome the negativity. Even the parents within the article make themselves active within their child’s school; “The lesbian and gay parents in this study…experience for all students,” (Vitelli). With this information I would correlate the similarities in the parents being sociable in their child school as to how Lena (one of The Fosters mothers) is the vice principal on her children’s school. This then expands to how positive scenarios and actions taken within school about the LGBT community is a positive thing.

Jamie J. Weinman explores how Peter Paige, the creator of The Fosters, goes about in producing his show distinctively from older family dramas. “There were shows like Parenthood and sitcoms like Modern Family that gave a hand in structuring how his show would broaden ideas on the LGBT community and diversity,” (Weinman). With the show, it is not just showing examples and scenarios of how family should be and act, but how individuals themselves go through traumatic experiences and the way they deal with it. Because of this, the text adds insight on how different shows contribute to real life issues. However, The Fosters real life issues are more extensive than any drama series out.

“Coming from States News Service, Alabama had advance the H.B. 24 act that denies the right of LGBTQ fosters parents adopting children,” (SNS). The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a rights organization that represents the LGBTQ community in ensuring that they have equal rights and are treated with equality. The article expresses how the H.B. 24 Would not give any legislation to anyone associated within the LGBTQ community, even if it does hinder the children within their foster care system. This argument is useful to me since I will be discussing how adoption within the environment of LGBTQ parents is looked down upon, yet the show, The Fosters, expresses more of a positive attitude with having same sex parents. The work does contradict my claim, but there is still more to gain with the LGBTQ bunch.
